Qantas and BP may launch their ‘points for petrol’ partnership

Qantas and BP may launch their ‘points for petrol’ partnership in March.

A choice of points at the pump

Motorists can choose either earning BP Points or Qantas Points when they fill up the gas tank or other things at one of 1,400 BP service stations around Australia.

BP has said this partnership will be a ‘direct earn’ model, with Qantas Points will be earned initially into a Qantas Frequent Flyer account instead of earning BP Points and later converting them to Qantas Points.

The Qantas-BP partnership is also expected to fuel (no pun intended) interest in the Qantas Points Club, which will be exciting for Qantas Frequent Flyer members who earn their points via shopping rather than flying.

“Drivers spend a lot on fuel each year”, says Qantas Loyalty CEO Olivia Wirth, “the partnership with BP is an easy way for Qantas frequent flyers to earn points .”

Qantas Business Rewards customers are already able to get 0.5-1 Qantas Point per litre of fuel purchased with a BP Plus fuel card, although the earning rates for the broader QFF/BP partnership have not revealed yet.
